Whale song

An interesting article about whale songs in the New Scientist... near the end there is a mention of the fact that some species are panicked by the sonar waves emitted from naval vessels...

Will Greenpeace turn its back on the whales when all the proposed offshore turbines are being built?

Wonderful news!

Proposals for windfarms along the southern fringes of Exmoor by Coronation Power (4 turbines) and Airtricity (9 turbines) have been REFUSED AT APPEAL.

More to come on this.

The March of The Tripods

This is St. Peter's Church, built by St Cedd in AD 654 at Bradwell, Essex. It is one of the oldest churches in the country, and was painted for us by Anne Pluckrose during the 2005 "Paint it while it's there" Day.

The people of Bradwell have campaigned valiantly to save this unique peninsula from industrial blight but it seems that they have lost their long battle to stop the remorseless destruction being imposed upon their much-loved village. The government is determined to have its way, and giant Tripod-like structures striding across the last unspoilt areas of England, Scotland and Wales will be its appalling legacy. (If you have not read John Christopher's book, and are too young to remember the television series about the Tripods, there may be a film coming out in 2012, by which time the resemblance will become clear to all who live in turbine dominated areas.)

Read more about it here

Catherine Kaufman from Lancashire

Spring tulips by Catherine Kaufman

Catherine Kaufman is an artist from the village of Belthorn in Lancashire. She paints in acrylics and is studying for a Fine Art Degree at Blackburn University. We first heard from her when she contacted us concerning a wind farm proposal on the moor that is close to her home, and she has also sent us photographs (see this earlier posting)

To learn more about Catherine and her paintings, and see another of her photographs of Oswaldtwistle Moor, go to her web page on www.artistsagainstwindfarms.com

They're not Green Episode 5

If you did not look at Tuesday's video, here is another:

As someone says on this episode, "if you lose the birds and the bats, you're on the way to losing everything."

Watch this video

This is part of a documentary on YouTube. Here in England we have enough to worry about with wind turbine noise, but the plight of the people living downwind of turbines in Palm Springs appears to be even worse: in this episode you can hear families speak about how they suffer from toxic fumes when the turbines catch fire.
The documentary is made by Nettie Peña, and more information can be found on the website http://web.me.com/thrnotgreen/thrnotgreen/Home.html

Now we see it confirmed:

Read this Daily Telegraph article by Rowena Mason which exposes the devastating truth about the wind farm scam - during this cold weather wind farms in the UK produced practically no electricity.

When it is very cold, there isn't usually much wind. It is that simple.
